It’s been a year since Surrey County Council proudly launched its ground-breaking initiative, Period Dignity, in partnership with charity Binti International. The initiative to provide free period products in selected locations across Surrey has grown from strength to strength.

Surrey County Council rolled out in 35 Surrey buildings to start with including libraries and County Council buildings and now have 55 collection and donation points where people can take period products to enable Period Dignity.

Some other organisations in Surrey have also come on board such as Morrisons in Weybridge and St James Church in Weybridge. It would be great to see more organisations across Surrey support this great initiative. Especially as more and more people are struggling financially with day to day living costs.

Cabinet Member for Communities, Mark Nuti said: “One year on, Period Dignity is still an amazing initiative to ensure that no one is left behind in our community. As people are struggling financially more now than ever, it will become increasingly important to keep donating period products to 55 of our donation locations to help those that need it most. Period products should be available to anyone who needs them, without stigma or shame, so I urge everyone to do their part in period dignity in Surrey and get involved”.

Nicki Francis Manager at Walton library said: “A lot of people have said to us this is a good thing…a lot of people have been very generous and just putting an extra packet in their shopping then dropping it off at the library can make all the difference to someone in need. For some it’s a choice between buying food or period products”
