Period Dignity
Surrey County Council has proudly launched our Period Dignity campaign . It is a ground-breaking initiative to provide free period products across Surrey and be the first county council in England to start eradicating period stigma.
End period stigma
Our marketing campaign with stickers and posters is designed to start the period conversation. The stickers are used akin to the ‘credit cards accepted here’ placed on doors and mirrors across the various locations in Surrey. The staff at Surrey County Council has already started to have period conversations and recognise where the stigma is.
It is something that is so deeply engrained that most of the time the stigma is not even apparent until it is discussed.
Provision of Period Products
Anybody will be able to go into any of the locations and help themselves to a pad. We believe this campaign will help us to instil policy to ensure that all public buildings will carry period products. This will mean that we will no longer have to use toilet paper to manage our period when we start unexpectedly.
PAY IT FORWARD
Surrey County will have collection bins to encourage their visitors to donate period products. It really is an effective way to bridge the gap and create a societal change and sustainability until we have policy change. Take a pad when you need one and donate a pack when you are passing, so that someone else can menstruate with dignity.
